The three-day Gingerbread Festival officially kicked off in Hindman on Friday, making it the 35th anniversary of the event since its conception and dedicated to the memory of late board member, Jim Phelps, who recently passed away.

The festival features great local food, cartoon characters, crafts, adult gingerbread baking competition plus a competition for children, games and the parade, which comprised specially-decorated themed floats.

Knott County Health and Rehab’s float was designed to pay tribute to Appalachian literature showcasing specially constructed books by Kentucky authors, and a reading table with book case.

Knott County HRC also hosted a ‘food booth’ featuring gingerbread, hot dogs, cheese fries, Apple Dumplings, hamburgers and steak sandwiches.
